Zoë trained in performance, scenography and participatory arts. She lives in Corca Dhuibhne for the past 17 years. Her work is inspired by an immersion into the landscape and language of the peninsula.
Zoë has an exploratory approach to art-making, with a skill for noticing detail, pattern and connections – she revels in sharing this with others. She hopes to ignite playful curiosity and encourage empathy.
She works across the disciplines of dance, installation, performance, film, writing, painting and drawing, often combining multiple forms.
She enjoys the richness of collaborating with others and has worked with many other artists – poets, musicians, performance artists – to create film and live work. She has also worked extensively with her community, including with children and adults with different abilities.
She is fascinated by the meeting of performer and audience, and seeks to blur these boundaries in her work, which often contains an interactive element. She has much experience in leading funded projects and delivering innovative and meaningful experiences for audiences.
Zoë's work responds to site and she is very interested in spending time in a specific location, using materials from that place, and returning to exhibit the work, often integrating this into a live site-specific piece.
Her work reflects her choice to live as gently on the Earth as possible, and hopes to encourage this in others.
For the past few years she has been finding and making natural inks and earth pigments, and attempts to integrate her arts practices into daily routine.
She has received support from the Arts Council, Kerry County Council and Ealaín na Gaeltachta.
In recent years she has enjoyed a residency at Siamsa Tíre, and performance/ installation commissions from Féile na Bealtaine, Féile Litríochta an Daingin, Nasc Productions and Cogar (Other Voices) in Kerry.
She also loves working with young people. She designs and facilitates art, dance, and environmental education workshops.
She is a Creative Associate with Creative Schools, a facilitator with the Teacher Artist Partnership, BLAST, Your Gallery At School (with the National gallery), Éiceascoil (with Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne) and Cúinne an Ghiorria - creative wildflower primary schools programme.
